Yazen’s role within the PLACE Team is to source participants and follow-up with them in their journey with PLACE, especially between the labs and at an individual level. Finding hidden talent among the newcomers in the Paris region, and convincing them to take the PLACE journey, lie with him – a key point for PLACE to be a success. Yazen is also a Lab Producer, making sure all logistics unfold seamlessly during PLACE labs.
Yazen is from Swaida, a city in the South of Syria. He graduated in Law from Damascus University where he started focusing on international and human rights laws. While he was at university, he spent 6 months in Glasgow and Aleppo as part of a global exchange programme delivered by the British Council and Shabab, a Syrian NGO. Yazen also volunteered with the Syrian Red Crescent and the Family Planning Association, and worked for French NGO Première Urgence in Damascus until 2014.
Since his arrival in Paris in 2014, he has learned French and completed a Masters in Humanitarian Action at the University of Créteil. As part of his Masters, he completed an internship with SINGA, where he gained both a better understanding of French society, and of the difficulties migrants and refugees face during their integration process. He completed a thesis on Intercultural Communication, and has since then developed several trainings on intercultural communication used in the corporate sector as well as civil society
Yazen’s resourcefulness, humour and B Plans for when things don’t go according to plan are central to PLACE’s reach today.
